Supports for All New Teachers

Are you a new teacher looking for a way to build connections, community, and collaboration with other local educators? Consider attending the New Teacher Network (NTN). NTN is open to all local teachers and designated teachers in their first through fifth years of teaching. Each month, we will explore a topic and offer practical strategies to help new teachers feel confident and make connections with other new educators who have similar experiences. We continue to offer support to New Teachers throughout the year, free of charge.

Please join us for the sessions that fit your schedule. We are excited to continue supporting our new teachers as they make meaningful contributions to their students, schools, and our community. Join us for connection and collaboration.

Classroom Essentials

The Tehama Teacher Induction Program and CTE Teacher Preparation Program host a two-day workshop, "Classroom Essentials," before the school year to help teachers new to the classroom. The goal is to help teachers build essential skills, foster professional connections, and prepare for the exciting challenges of the classroom. The intended audience is pre-intern, intern, and preliminary Career Technical Education (CTE) candidates.

Focus on California Teacher Performance Expectations

The workshop sessions aligned with California’s Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs) the professional standards they will use in their university program, equipping participants with practical tools and strategies from local educators. Key topics included:

  • Classroom Management: Creating structured, supportive environments for all learners

  • Effective Literacy Instruction: Developing and supporting foundational reading and writing skills

  • Lesson Development: Designing engaging lessons to meet diverse student needs

  • Developing as a Professional Educator: Reflecting on growth and building professional networks

  • Tech Tools for the Classroom: Leveraging technology to enhance learning

Assessing Student Learning: Using formative and summative assessments to monitor growth

Community Connections and Shared Wisdom

Community Connections and Shared Wisdom

We coordinate with our local institutes of Higher Education - CSU, Chico, and Simpson University - to outline the steps for general education and special education candidates to take to get into an intern program. Candidates need to enroll in prerequisites for an intern program before they can officially start a program, and we want to help clarify the process. We invite new teachers who had participated in the previous year’s Classroom Essentials program to share their insights and lessons learned, offering practical advice for those just starting their teaching journeys. We also have our Tehama County Credential Analyst join to answer specific credentialing questions.
